There are people you can sit beside in silence.
People who'll hear the long version, all the way to the end.
Bring them.
Under one roof, the day loosens.
Meals run long. Someone says the thing they've been carrying for a while,
and someone else listens until they've finished.
I've had nights like that here.
There are friends I haven't seen in nearly a year.
The conversation we had at that table hasn't gone anywhere.
That's all I'd wish for you.
Not to see everything.
To be with someone, completely, for a while.
Then take it home with you.
A whole house, one group. Up to six adults.
Private sauna and cold bath included.
Wineries 7 minutes. Nirasaki IC 4–5.

It began as a housefor gathering, eating and sleeping.Four hundred years on,it still is.
One tall room of 27 tatami. The kitchen and dining table are at one end. At the other is a low sofa facing the Minami-Alps. Tatami underfoot, fusuma between the rooms, the lights kept low. At night, the town lights in the valley.
Two 8-tatami rooms. One has two single beds, the other two floor mattresses. The hall adds a sofa bed and two futons. That sleeps up to six adults. With children under 6 sharing a bed, up to eight people in all.It used to be called manyō no ie. It started life as a thatched farmhouse, which Soka University's founder gave to the university as a piece of folk culture. Around 2005 it was taken apart, brought to this hill and rebuilt from its own timbers. In 2026 we renovated it with Atelier Iroha, to modern insulation and earthquake standards. It feels like a kominka, but you won't freeze on a winter night.

The kitchen window looks over the paddy, which changes every week. Mitsubishi induction hob and a portable burner · range hood · fridge-freezer · combination microwave oven · rice cooker · kettle · coffee grinder and scale · wine fridge · glasses, dishes and basic seasonings. A corner of the window shows Yatsugatake to the north.
If you'd rather not cook, Aiyama (あい山), nearby, will bring a shabu-shabu dinner for up to six. ¥5,500 a head, wine included. Give two days' notice.

Hinoki benches and a Harvia Cilindro 6 heater. From the window, a corner of Yatsugatake. Next door, a tiled cold bath, cleaned before every group: about 15°C in the warmer months, in winter as cold as the mountain tap water. Outside, a deck for sitting in the open air between rounds. Bathing suits and ponchos are provided.
All of it is included, with no extra charge and nothing to book. Both need up to 90 minutes, so switch on the sauna and fill the cold bath when you arrive. The bath is hinoki and Towada stone, with an overhead shower and a heater-dryer. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap are by THREE.

The living room looks straight at the Minami-Alps. The engawa looks over our garden and the neighbour's vines. From the deck at night, the town lights. The front garden parks four cars, and on a clear day you'll see Fuji there, to the south, behind the trees. That's the only place you'll see it from.

House rules
Each one has a reason.
You let yourselves in, and we leave you alone. But I'm a message away, before and during your stay. If something's wrong, tell me and we'll fix it. Ask me about wineries, walks or lunch. I have opinions.
